Now I know some will disagree with me, but this is how see it
Picture this: You’re a 30yr old Kenyan, jobless, or maybe earning 6K a month. Then you hear of a job abroad paying 80K or more . And. Maybe you are told it's an industry job or you are told directly that its a mercenary job and you will be trained etc .
Anyway assume you were told it's an industry job . You take the risk, go to Russia, start the industry job , and later learn that joining a mercenary group pays 140K+ with extra perks per month or week ..
Be honest in a country like Kenya where most youths don’t earn more than 20,000ksh in a month, would you really refuse? In a country where if you don't have connections you don't have a job ?
And in a situation in which you have bills , debts and even family depending on you ?
These Kenyans aren’t fighting because they love war, it’s because our country failed them.
There are no jobs, no opportunities, unless you have connections.
Many youths are tired, desperate, even hopeless. Some don’t know what they’ll eat tonight.
And let me tell you, being jobless & broke can push people to a point in which you don't care about the job anymore. Infact you be like if "if I did it's better..." .
So when these youths hear there’s money elsewhere, they take the risk.
It’s painful, but it’s reality.
And yes, I’m not supporting what they’re doing. It’s wrong.
My point is: these are desperate youths.
The Govt should create safe pathways for them to return home or even formal agreements with Russia/Ukraine to ensure their safety.
And make no mistake, Kenyans are everywhere: Somalia, Myanmar, you name it. In every war country you will find kenyans
We don’t need more speeches and blames.
We need industries, jobs, and a reason for young people to believe again 🇰🇪
